Surface roughness can be measured easily with a single tip.

■ Usage Method
When measuring roughness of the actual piece by comparing it with a roughness standard specimen, there are two methods: visual and tactile. However, as with the JIS standard, when regulating the maximum uneven height, the tactile method is optimal except for very rough surfaces.
For the tactile method, rubbing with a nail tip seems to provide better sensitivity than touching with the ball of a finger. Lightly rubbing with a pencil tip also seems to work. Nevertheless, when the surface gloss matters, obviously it must be done visually. Degree of roughness identifiable visually or tactilely is normally approx. 0.8 S.
